Terry Gingras, Ph.D. and ADD/LD

Being a parent is one of the most satisfying, but also one of the most terrifying roles of adulthood.

When all is going well—your children are getting good grades, doing well in sports, music and other activities—life is good and all is right with the world. However, when your child is having problems in school—can’t seem to learn or is having behavior problems—or is difficult at home—temper tantrums, disobedience, terminal disorganization—being a parent becomes uncomfortable and scary. What’s wrong with my child? Is it something I’m doing or not doing? The teacher thinks it may be attention deficit disorder.

IF YOU:

  • Worry that your child has attention deficit disorder

  • Worry his/her poor school performance may be caused by a learning disability

  • Wish you felt more confident in your parenting skills

  • Worry that your shy, isolative child may have Asperger’s syndrome or autism

  • Worry because you don’t know anything about individual education plans or 504 plans

Welcome

I am Terry James Gingras, Ph.D., and I know what you’re going through.

I have been specializing in ADD and LD evaluations since one of my own children started having academic problems. Fortunately, I was already involved in a career in which it was possible to research and learn the best approaches to dealing with your child. The first thing you need is a complete evaluation of your child’s neurodevelopmental functioning. It is essential to understand your child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Only then can you start to intervene. Filling out an 18-item questionnaire in your physician’s office is not an adequate evaluation and shouldn’t be used to determine if your child is going to be on medication for the rest of his life.

After the evaluation, then comes intervention. It may include medication or a recommendation for speech therapy or occupational therapy. But you will be confidant in the process because you will know why services are being requested and what is expected from them.

Let me help you get the appropriate treatment for your child.

p.s. I also evaluate and treat adults.
